Example Using Colons

Imagine you are at a party with 10 girls and 5 boys.

The ratio of girls to boys is 10:5.This means there are 10 girls for every 5 boys. You can also simplify the ratio by dividing both numbers by 5:
10:5 = 2:1

So, the ratio of girls to boys is 2:1 (for every 2 girls, there is 1 boy).

Notation:

Let's use it in our daily life...!

Think of a ratio as a way to describe how two things compare. For example, if you and a friend baked cookies, and you made 8 while your friend made 4, the ratio of the cookies you made to the cookies your friend made is 8:4. If we simplify it, it becomes 2:1, meaning you made 2 cookies for every 1 cookie your friend made.

Let’s practice and evaluate your understanding of ratios together!
