Unlock the concept of equivalent ratios with a detailed, step-by-step guide designed to help you master the topic! This resource is perfect for students working on 6th-grade math  and anyone looking to strengthen their understanding of ratios. Learn how to create ratio tables, find missing values, and solve real-world word problems with ease.

Create Ratio Tables

Start by organizing quantities into tables.

A ratio table helps visualize how

two quantities are related.

For example, if a recipe calls for 2 cups of flour

to make 4 cookies, you can create a table

to find how much flour is needed for 6 cookies:

Flour (cups) Cookies
2 4
? 6

Find Missing Values

Once you have a ratio, use multiplication

or division to find missing values.

For the example above, the ratio of flour

to cookies is 2:4, or 1:2.

So, to find how much flour is needed for

6 cookies,

you multiply:

Flour = 6/2×1=3cups

So, for 6 cookies, you need 3 cups of flour.

Problem:

A car travels 60 miles in 2 hours. How far will it travel in 5 hours if it maintains the same speed?

Understand the Relationship

The ratio of distance to time is 60miles:2hours.

Simplify the Ratio

Divide both terms of the ratio by 2 to find the distance traveled in 1 hour:

60/2=30 miles per hour.

Calculate for 5 Hours

Multiply the distance per hour (miles 30miles) by 5 hours:

Distance=30×5=150miles.

Final Answer

The car will travel 150 miles in 5 hours.
